Search “regedit” in the search box on the taskbar and select Registry Editor.

Now once you are on Registry Editor window navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR

Now in the right pane, choose the Start option.

On the pop-up window, if you see value 3, you need to change it to 4 to disable USB storage.

Press OK.

To again enable it, simply change the value to 3 and click OK.

  • Access Device Manager to disable USB ports

Search and select Device Manager from the search box on the taskbar.

Now expand the category called Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Right-click on one of these options and select Disable Device.

  • Uninstall the USB Mass Storage Drivers

To uninstall the USB Mass Storage Drivers, follow these steps:

Search and select Device Manager from the search box on the taskbar.

On the Device Manager window, expand the category USB Mass Storage Device under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Right-click on it and select the Uninstall option.
